FAQs

01.

What is Somatic Therapy and Education?

Somatic Therapy is a body-centered approach that integrates the mind, body, emotions, and spirit. It recognizes that experiences, emotions, and trauma are stored in the body. Through gentle exploration of sensations, movement, and breath, somatic therapy helps you access these layers to support healing, emotional release, and deeper self-awareness.

02.

How does Somatic Movement/Dance differ from other movement/dance practices?

Unlike movement methods focused on technique and aesthetic form, somatic movement emphasizes internal experience and awareness, using form to cultivate a deeper understanding of one's anatomy. It encourages exploring movement from the inside out, guided by sensations, emotions, and intuition. The aim is to enhance the body-mind connection, release tension, and develop a sense of ease and presence—shifting away from performative movement toward authentic embodiment.

03.

What are Expressive Arts, and how are they used in therapy?

Expressive Arts integrate modalities like movement, visual arts, writing, and sounding as tools for expression and healing. We use the creative process to access emotions, explore inner experiences, and facilitate self-discovery and transformation. It helps us to express what is beyond words, in the pre-conscious layers of ourselves, and to process complex feelings in a safe and supportive way—while also developing our aesthetics and artistic skill.

04.

What can I expect from a private session?

Each individual session is unique and tailored to your needs, blending dialogue, somatic awareness, movement, and creative exploration. We begin by attuning to your body, emotions, and current experiences. From there, we may incorporate movement/dance, drawing, writing, and voice, allowing your process to reveal the next steps that will be the most supportive to meet your needs. The focus is on creating a compassionate space for you to express, explore, and integrate your experiences.

05.

Who would benefit most from this work?

Anyone can benefit from this approach, and it deeply supports those seeking to feel more present in their bodies, explore emotions creatively, or find new ways to process experiences. It’s particularly supportive for people navigating transitions, trauma recovery, body image issues, or those who feel disconnected from their bodies or emotions. It’s also valuable for anyone looking for a non-traditional therapeutic approach that honors the whole self.

06.

How do I know if this approach is right for me?

If you are curious about integrating mind, body, and creative expression in your healing process, or if you feel talk therapy alone isn’t addressing everything, this could be a good fit. It’s especially helpful for those drawn to a more experiential process that engages body awareness and creativity, and that gives you practical tools to integrate what you learn in the therapeutic process into your daily life to create the changes you seek.

07.

What makes your approach unique?

This work honors the wisdom of your body and whole being. We don't only talk about your feelings and issues, we learn to feel and process them in ways that expand your sense of self and your life. We allow the creative process to support our explorations and the arts to hold the difficult themes as well as to help us celebrate who we are, who we have been, and who we are becoming.

08.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?

Yes, I offer both in-person sessions in Los Angeles and online sessions. The online format is designed to provide the same depth and support, with adjustments made to ensure you feel safe, connected, and comfortable, no matter the location.
